Wellcome to
Venezuela
!
the
map:
Venezuela is a
beautiful country that has
been touched by the hands of God, with beaches, sand and
palm trees where blue is mixed up with turquoise. Due to
its privileged location, where the top of South America
meets the Caribbean Sea, Venezuela is blessed with
incredible beauty.
The
country comprises a continental mainland and numerous islands
located off the Venezuelan coastline in the Caribbean Sea.
Venezuela possesses borders with Guyana to the east, Brazil
to the south, and Colombia to the west. Falling within the
tripixs, Venezuela sits close to the equator, in the Northern
Hemisphere.
Caracas is the capital of
Venezuela.
Climate
Venezuela's climate is tropical with little change between its two seasons:
the wet season ranges normally from May to October and sporadically
continues through November, and the dry season begins approximately in
December and continues until the end of March. Temperatures vary depending
on the altitude but are relatively uniform across the country. Over 90% of
the country has a mean annual temperature of 24°C (75°F). Caracas
temperature is about 22°C (72°F). Day to night variations is more pronounced
than month to month. Mountain areas are cool. While perennial snow covers
the top of several mountains peaks in the Andes, the temperatures in the
valleys can be quite comfortable.
Food:
Venezuelan food has a marked Indian influence and strong
ties to its European ancestry. Our national bread is the arepa,
prepared with corn flour, and it is as a kind of bread to accompany a meal,
or by itself, stuffed with meat, bologna, cheese, scrambled eggs, or
anything one wishes.
Venezuelan cuisine
often varies greatly from one region to another.
At Christmas,
all over Venezuela, a special and typical food is cooked in every house; it
is called hallaca. The hallaca is a corn-meal pie stuffed with pork or
chicken, olives and raisins and wrapped in plantain leaves and boiled.
This kind of banana (plátano) is used often in our kitchen and is the base
for many national food specialties.
The variety of
fruits in Venezuela is very rich, and being a tropical country the abundance
and beauty are such that their display in our markets makes them look
picturesque and exotic.
